JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A 20-year-old man was killed and nine other people were injured, including a 15-year-old girl, when gunfire broke out outside a party early Sunday morning near Wilcox and 5th Street on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to police.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said officers responded around 3:50 a.m. after learning that several people had been shot. They found the man in his twenties there, injured. He later died in hospital.
At least nine other injured people were hospitalized, police said. Among the injured was a 15-year-old girl whose condition was stable.
The other eight victims were aged between 20 and 25 and included six women and two men. One woman was in life-threatening condition; the others were stable, police said.
Investigators believe a party on 5th Street that attracted about 100 to 200 people spilled into the streets. Two shootings were reported in quick succession, with most people believed to have been shot in the second volley, police said.
No suspects were in custody and investigators had not determined how many people fired shots. Police asked witnesses to share information, including videos recorded on their cellphones. Tips can be made to the Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
