CANBY, Ore. (KPTV) — Police are searching for a 10-year-old girl who was taken from her apartment in Canby early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the Orchards Apartments on Southeast Township Road around 1:47 a.m., the Canby Police Department said. Investigators said a man entered an apartment at 1:39 a.m., injured a 12-year-old child and took 10-year-old Violet Hay.

Police said they do not know where Hay is currently located. She is described as 5 feet tall and weighing 125 pounds. She was last seen wearing a green shirt and black shorts.

Investigators are speaking with family members, checking the neighborhood and collecting surveillance video, police said. Police said Hay’s mother and father are cooperating with the investigation.

A FOX 12 crew responding to the apartment complex Wednesday afternoon saw a few police cruisers in the area, as well as a taped-off apartment with detectives outside.

The Canby School District said Hay was a student at Carus Elementary School.

“Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at Carus Elementary School this afternoon at the time of dismissal,” the district said in a letter to families Wednesday.

“Our hearts go out to this child and her family,” the district said. “Please know that we are here to support our students, staff and families in any way we can. »
