A dozen teenagers were shot and killed after gunfire erupted during a chaotic birthday party gone wrong at a Georgia park Saturday night, according to authorities and local reports.
The gunfire erupted around midnight at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, where a “large gathering” had gathered following a birthday party at a nearby Airbnb, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.
Two of the victims – a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old boy – were in critical condition, while the other ten were in stable condition.
The group, which included high school students, had been asked to leave this Airbnb during their party and ended up gathering at Crayton Park.
A separate group arrived at the park and an argument broke out between them – before gunfire erupted and 12 people were injured, 13WMAZ reported.
Initial reports suggest only 11 people were shot, but a 12th victim ended up limping to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury Sunday afternoon.
The names of the victims have not been released, but police said the injured included four 18-year-old men, five 17-year-old men, two 18-year-old women and one 19-year-old man – who was the 12th victim.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told reporters he “can’t remember the last time this many people were shot at one time.”
More than a dozen shots were fired, and local reports even revealed spent shell casings that investigators apparently did not notice. It’s unclear how many guns were involved and police have not released any information on possible suspects.
Despite the carnage of the previous night, Crayton Park was open again on Sunday.
No arrests have been made yet, but the FBI has provided assistance due to the large number of victims and participants.
