13-year-old shot again at southeast Atlanta apartment complex

ATLANTA – A 13-year-old boy is recovering after gunshots rang out and struck his home early Sunday morning in southeast Atlanta.
What we know:
Bullet holes hit Building C of the Capitol Vanira Apartments before 4 a.m. Sunday.
Officers responded to the complex and found the 13-year-old boy alert, conscious and breathing before medics rushed him to a local hospital.
Investigators believe someone targeted the home and fired from outside.
Several bullets pierced the windows and walls near his bed, according to his family.
What they say:
The victim’s sister, Asia Battle, said the family hid for cover when the shooting began.
“Everybody got on the floor and my mom was telling me to go to the bathroom and I was laying on the floor and my little brother, we think maybe he jumped and that’s how he got shot, but the bullet literally went through the wall by his bed,” Battle said.
His family says he is doing well, but they do not feel comfortable returning to the residence.
Battle confirmed her brother was not seriously injured, but she stressed the family refused to stay put.
“We don’t sleep here,” Battle said. “I was still afraid even to walk past the window when the police arrived.”
The family noted this was the second time the teen had been shot at the complex.
Battle said his teenage brother was shot to death outside the same apartment complex in September.
Another brother was also shot outside the building in the same incident last year.
The battle necessitated severe measures regarding property.
“I think they need to close these apartments,” Battle said.
What we don’t know:
Officers have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting, according to police.
Investigators have not determined what led to the shooting.
