ELK GROVE, California. —
Two students were taken to the hospital after being stabbed Wednesday at Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, according to police.
The Elk Grove Police Department said two teenagers, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and were both high school students. One of them is a student at Pleasant Grove High, while the other attended another high school in Elk Grove, according to police.
Police said the stabbing was reported around 3:45 p.m. A school resource officer arrived and found school staff providing first aid to the two victims, who were just outside the restroom near the gymnasium. The officer joined the rescue efforts until the students were transported to the hospital.
When other officers arrived on scene, they found and arrested the teenage suspects in a neighborhood just south of the school.
Police said a fight took place in a school bathroom when one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed the two students.
One victim remains hospitalized and recovering from his injuries, which are no longer life-threatening. The second victim is also hospitalized, his life being in danger.
A knife was found on site.
Both suspects were booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder.
The high school and adjacent campus, Katherine Albiani Middle School, were placed under precautionary lockdown measures, which have since been lifted.
The Elk Grove Unified School District said students had already been released the day the stabbing occurred. Pleasant Grove High School said all activities on both campuses were canceled Wednesday evening.
School officials said there would be increased law enforcement on campus Thursday as well as a district crisis team available to support students and staff “who may need to talk about what happened.”
