What an afternoon for Auburn and Tennessee, huh? The underdogs pulled off sensational upsets over bitter rivals Georgia and Alabama, respectively.
And the national impact is resounding.
Georgia, which has reeled off nine straight wins in the series, will vacate its spot atop the AP Top 25. The sky isn’t falling in Athens, given that UGA is still 6-1, but the schedule doesn’t get any easier with rival Florida, Ole Miss and Mizzou awaiting the Dawgs after an open weekend.
Alabama’s prospects are even more dire since the Crimson Tide, who fell to UGA last week, fell to 5-2. Although the three-loss teams can doing the CFP with 12 teams is not a comfortable place. LSU and Auburn remain on Bama’s roster.
Additionally, every SEC team lost a conference game. The league is heading into a nice six-week frenzy to decide the standings.
