2026 Midterm Betting Odds: Punters Shift Slightly to Republicans
Updated October 18, 2026, 6:41 p.m. ET
Betting odds for the 2026 midterm elections have moved slightly in favor of Republicans with just over two weeks until Election Day.
Unlike public opinion polls, betting markets do not directly measure voter preferences. Their odds can change depending on betting activity, including where punters place their money. Betting odds, for example, can move in favor of Republicans, even if polls heavily favor Democrats as November approaches.
Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for British bookmaker William Hill, told USA TODAY that there is some “speculative support” for Republicans to win both chambers, with large bets at high odds. Phelps said Republicans holding their trifecta was “comfortably our biggest losing outcome.”
That betting action, which U.S. bookmakers cannot legally offer, is reflected in the odds of a Democratic sweep, which have lengthened slightly since USA TODAY last looked at the midterm odds published by U.K. and foreign bookmakers.
Despite betting on Republicans, Phelps said the betting house’s analysis “still heavily favors Democrats.”
“Democrats are heavy favorites for the House at 1/16 and comfortable favorites for the Senate at 1/2, with the market remaining largely flat after the big swing in their favor,” Phelps said.
These odds imply that Democrats have about a 94% chance of winning the House and about a 66% chance of winning the Senate. Here’s where the betting odds stand for the 2026 midterms.
