2026 midterm elections: Trump campaigns in Iowa
Neil Bush, son of former President George HW Bush, votes for Dem Talarico in Texas Senate race
Neil Bush, son of the late President George H. W. Bush and brother of former President George W. Bush, announced that he voted for State Rep. James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate from Texas.
“My vote was motivated by two things: deep concern about Ken Paxton’s record and genuine admiration for the character and principles I see in James Talarico,” Neil Bush wrote in a Facebook post.
“I have been deeply troubled by Paxton’s conduct as attorney general of Texas, particularly his decision to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election in other states in an effort to help Donald Trump remain in power,” he added.
Bush said he believes President Donald Trump has damaged the Republican Party.
“More broadly, I believe that Donald Trump and those who helped him have done enormous damage to the Republican Party. I am concerned about a political culture in which loyalty to an individual trumps loyalty to principle, and where those in power begin to believe that they are no longer responsible,” he wrote.
But Bush also explained why he supports Talarico.
“I have never met James Talarico, but I have been extremely impressed by the way he approaches complex and controversial issues. He speaks with respect, seeks common ground, and seems genuinely interested in bringing people together rather than tearing them apart. His faith seems to be a source of humility, compassion, and deeply rooted conviction rather than a political weapon.
“I see in him the qualities I most admire in public servants: integrity, courtesy, humility, and a willingness to listen to those with whom he disagrees. My impression is that he is a pragmatic and principled leader who understands that public service is a responsibility to serve, not a right to power,” he wrote.
“I have been a Republican most of my life and still believe deeply in many traditional Republican principles. But character matters more than party affiliation. Our democracy depends on leaders who respect our institutions, tell the truth, accept responsibility, and seek to unite rather than divide,” Bush said.
The Paxton campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment Thursday.
