49ers’ Brock Purdy makes NFL history by breaking Lamar Jackson’s passing record
Brock Purdy’s hyper-efficient start to his NFL career earned him a place in the history books on Monday.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has now surpassed 1,500 pass attempts in his career, meaning he now qualifies for a handful of all-time passing rankings. He is now No. 1 all-time in passer rating (105.4), adjusted yards per attempt (8.7) and adjusted net yards per attempt (7.9), among other statistics.
Lamar Jackson previously held the passer record at 102.7, but it now belongs to Purdy. Other notable quarterbacks just below him include Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
It’s fair to say that most didn’t expect Purdy to have this kind of career when he was drafted with the 262nd overall pick in 2022, but he quickly established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league year after year.
He had an MVP-caliber campaign in his second NFL season and led the Niners to a Super Bowl appearance that year. This year, he’s getting San Francisco off to a 5-0 start, and the 49ers look capable of winning it all.
Sure, Purdy had a lot of help along the way, from coordinators and coaches to talented players like George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey, but his stats are a testament to how he played during his early years.
Purdy, who is only 26 years old, could become one of the best quarterbacks of his generation, but he is still chasing his first Super Bowl, an MVP title and other accolades.
For now, he remains one of the most effective quarterbacks the league has ever seen.
