The Seahawks and 49ers played a classic on Sunday afternoon.
San Francisco escaped with a 32-29 victory, giving the 49ers a 5-0 record under Kyle Shanahan for the third time. The Seahawks fell to 3-2.
It was a dynamic, physical and defensive battle with seven turnovers, 520 yards and eight sacks. The teams were 7 for 24 on third down.
49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro made a 44-yard field goal with 1:56 left for the deciding points, although the Seahawks made it interesting.
With the Seahawks at midfield, All-Pro receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dropped a third-down pass at the San Francisco 25-yard line with 54 seconds remaining. He set up a fourth-and-10, and Cooper Kupp caught a pass down the sideline and dove toward the scorer. It was close, but officials ruled it was just short of the first down and the replay confirmed it.
The 49ers scored 21 points off four Seattle turnovers, with drives of 18 and 11 yards and defensive end Gracen Halton’s recovery of George Holani’s fumble in the end zone. Pineiro missed a second-half field goal on Renardo Green’s second-round pick, Sam Darnold.
The Seahawks scored 14 points on three 49ers turnovers of 24 and 23 yards.
The 49ers outscored the Seahawks 269 to 251, with Brock Purdy going 19 of 29 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Mike Evans starred with seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Christian McCaffrey had 11 carries for 68 yards, a touchdown and three catches for 15 yards.
Darnold finished 18 of 29 for 195 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Smith-Njigba caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Emanuel Wilson had 20 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown and lost a fumble.
Seahawks kicker Jason Myers was good with field goals of 49, 50, 43, 48 and 40 yards.
