60 Minutes Season 2026

The last episode of 60 minutes came in as the lowest-rated of the season so far, according to final tallies from Nielsen Media Research.

The segment also led to a tense meeting Tuesday, in which protesting staffers were reportedly threatened with firing if they questioned CBS News’ editorial hierarchy.

The program played under CBS Sunday evening broadcasts Tracker And Marshals, which aired after 60 minutes and both landed well above 7 million total viewers.

Sunday’s drop in audiences comes a week later 60 minutes recorded an impressive 10.2 million total viewers and 2 million viewers during the Oct. 4 demo, widely seen as a vindication of sorts for the CBS News editor-in-chief. Last Sunday’s program echoed some of the difficulties with which the season began, as its debut was the lowest rated since 2000. The September premiere episode reached 7.9 million total viewers, a 21% drop from the previous year’s premiere episode and a significant decrease from previous years.

In October 2000, for example, the show premiered with a total of 11.2 million viewers – in a very different media environment than linear television.
