Above 911? Porsche previews a new mid-engined supercar.
And, as we learned today, a mid-engined supercar. “The Mission S provides a glimpse into the ideas and design features that will shape Porsche in the years to come,” Leiters said. “At the same time, the Mission S represents a mid-engined supersports car platform positioned above the 911, not as a unique hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering. »

Driver engagement is the goal, and I’d wager that the red “alone” button disables many driver aids.

Note the lack of an infotainment screen: there’s a MagSafe mounting point on the dash, but will it be sturdy enough to hold a phone when you add a G of acceleration or cornering?

The Mission S previews how future Porsches will look and feel, both inside and out. There are nods to previous Porsches like the 917, 928, 959 and GT1 in the exterior styling, although from certain angles I also get an Aston Martin One-77 and a BMW i8. The interior, meanwhile, is inspired by Porsche’s beginnings with the 356 and 550 Spyder. In particular, Porsche says the Mission S emphasizes the driver experience with a mix of haptic and digital feedback. Screen haters take note: there’s no passenger display (hooray!) or even a central infotainment screen. Instead, your smartphone connects to a MagSafe connector.
We have no information on the powertrain of the Mission S. Considering the exhaust pipes at the rear, we can assume that it will be an internal combustion engine. There’s a good chance it’ll feature a flat-eight engine behind the cockpit, similar to the 908 race car (or the engine Ruf recently showed off) – rumors have been circulating for a week now that Porsche would build a flat-eight. It’s unclear whether or not it will feature forced induction or hybridization, but given that Porsche recently developed its T-Hybrid electric system, it’s reasonable to expect both.
