King Mohammed VI, widely considered Africa’s richest monarch, made the remarks in separate messages to Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to Saudi Gazette.
In these messages, the Moroccan monarch condemned attacks on civilian areas, economic facilities and critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. He also reaffirmed his country’s support for the security, sovereignty and stability of the kingdom.
“Any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco,” he said, adding that standing with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states amounts to defending common strategic interests.
Beyond the attacks on Saudi infrastructure, King Mohammed VI also condemned the attempts targeting Mecca and Medina. He said such actions went beyond an attack on Saudi Arabia and affected the feelings of more than 1.8 billion Muslims around the world.
“In this delicate moment that your country is going through, historical responsibility, religious values and strategic considerations require that we all be united to defend the rights, sovereignty, security and holy places of the Muslim nation,” he said.
He further condemned the “criminal acts,” holding the Houthis and those he said supported, financed and armed them responsible.
More broadly, the king said the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council states were inseparable from Morocco’s own security.
Africa’s richest monarch
His remarks also have broader economic significance. Instability around the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab can disrupt key trade routes connecting Asia, Africa and Europe, while prolonged insecurity can increase transport, insurance and logistics costs.
In this context, King Mohammed VI warned that continued attacks threatened not only regional security but also maritime corridors essential to the global economy and international navigation.
He also said the attacks violated international law, citing UN Security Council Resolution 2216 of 2015 and Resolution 2722 of 2024.
Furthermore, King Mohammed VI said attacks on civilian areas, economic installations and holy sites violated international humanitarian law as well as international conventions and standards, and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

The Moroccan monarch has numerous business interests through the royal family’s holdings, particularly the Al Mada Investment Group, which has interests in banking, mining, telecommunications, energy, retail and other sectors across Africa.
Forbes once described Mohammed VI as Africa’s richest monarch, although estimates of his personal fortune have varied over time.
Ultimately, his latest remarks strengthen Morocco’s strategic relations with Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf, at a time when new regional tensions are once again raising concerns over security, trade and vital maritime routes.
