AI accountability fight reaches Senate as Google releases powerful new model
Trump compares AI fears to climate change ‘hoax’ and Russian collusion investigation
In an interview with Time Magazine published Thursday, President Donald Trump discussed a wide range of topics, including his White House construction plans, the possibility of a Democratic House and Senate going after him next year and the ongoing war in Iran.
He also spoke about artificial intelligence – which he now calls superintelligence – and spoke extensively about the fears some express about the possibility of technology slipping out of humanity’s control.
He compared the latest wave of media attention on some AI models gone rogue to other alleged hoaxes he’s talked about in the past.
“They said our country was going to burn because of global warming,” Trump told Time. “Then they changed the name to climate change because global warming turned out to be a hoax. Russia, Russia, Russia was a hoax.”
On Tuesday, Trump met with AI executives at the White House, where they all signed an agreement that their companies would self-regulate.
Trump signed the deal alongside Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI Chairman Greg Brockman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and xAI founder Elon Musk, whose company is now part of SpaceX.
