Democrats’ congressional victory in the midterms Tuesday puts Silicon Valley in the crosshairs of the new majority as it prepares to bring together tech executives for high-profile hearings and set rules for artificial intelligence.

The results constitute a severe rebuke to the president that of Donald Trump laissez-faire approach to artificial intelligence and the priorities of some of the industry’s richest figures, including Elon Musk , Marc Andreessen And David Sacks .

Chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Greg Casar (D-Texas) called Tuesday night’s results “the first of a much larger AI-driven earthquake that is upending American politics.”

Democrats who exploited voters’ fears about artificial intelligence and data centers won big Tuesday night, suggesting the tech world is struggling to showcase its AI development to the general public. And the party’s exasperation with the tech industry was on full display Tuesday night. In his victory speech, Senator. Jon Ossoff (Democrat of Georgia), a potential 2028 presidential candidate, lamented that “the titans of Silicon Valley are digging bunkers for themselves and warning that the artificial intelligence they are creating risks the extinction of humanity.”
