ALDS postponement leaves Guardians ticket holders unhappy with changed game assignments

Some Cleveland Guardians fans were rained out in more ways than one Friday night.

For starters, Game 4 of the American League Division Series was postponed due to weather, but not until about an hour after the originally scheduled first pitch, meaning fans had traveled to the game and potentially paid for parking, food and merchandise.

Ironically, the postponement came despite Guardians’ X-account “Rain or Shine” posting an hour before the first launch. But the mess took a turn when the Guardians announced a slight change in tickets for the match.

The Guardians said fans with Game 4 tickets will be able to use them for Game 5, which will now take place on Sunday instead of the originally scheduled Saturday. Fans with tickets to Game 5 “need not take action” and can visit the stadium Saturday night.

This seems good at first until you realize that fans who bought tickets to Game 5 hoping to see a pennant victory won’t be able to do so, since they are now going to Game 4 – Cleveland leads 2-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays.

“This is a crazy way to handle tickets. Tomorrow should be game 4 and Sunday should be game 5. Tickets should be used in that order. This is going to cause serious problems,” one X user wrote Friday evening.

“Imagine thinking you had tickets for a possible home win tomorrow night and they just change your tickets for Game 4. Totally ridiculous. The game doesn’t have the same value,” wrote another. “Tickets must remain assigned to the match number originally designated in the series.”

“I’d be a little annoyed if I bought what might be end-of-series tickets and got moved up a game,” said another.

On the other hand, if the Guardians win on Saturday, those who had tickets to what was supposed to be Friday’s game might be very lucky.
