Amanda Seyfried quit her TV role because it featured a lot of sex scenes
Amanda Seyfried talks about passing on a role in a TV series because of its sex scenes.
While speaking at a panel hosted by Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton, New York, on October 4, according to People reviewthe actress would have mentioned the reason for her discomfort with the proposed role. She did not specify which television series the role was intended for.
“I passed up a show where I had to have sex all the time because of the sex,” she said. “It doesn’t matter (who it is with)… I don’t want to do it. I’m not comfortable with it. I’m not interested right now.”
She explained that her thoughts can change when she is in a “different space” in life.
“Maybe if (the project) came back (later), maybe I would be in a different space. But I don’t want to end up naked with a stranger,” she said.
Mom of two, Seyfried referred to her children and them “being careful about what I do” as a motivator.
“And so I have to be less of a pushover,” she said. “The other day – this is so silly – but Nina and my daughter and I were crossing the street (in Manhattan)…and a person on our side of the street asked for a picture, and I looked at my daughter and said, ‘No, I’m sorry.’ And then we crossed the street and I was like, “How did it go for you, Nina?” Was it okay? »
“She says, ‘I’m so proud of you, Mom,'” Seyfried shared. She also remembers her daughter telling her she was “proud” of her for saying no when someone asked for a photo while at a cafe.
“(If) I’m with my kids, I say no…whatever they’re going through is more important than what I’m going through,” she said.
Also during the panel, Seyfried further reflected on how things get “stranger and stranger” as you get older, while being an actor and portraying passion on screen.
“Our jobs are weird,” she says. “And as I get older, it gets weirder and weirder. We have to be romantic with people we’re not romantic with.”
“Sometimes it’s great,” she added. “Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable. But I can’t believe at the time I was like, ‘We need to kiss. Awesome ! It’s great. I know how to kiss. And it used to be so much fun. It was nothing. It was like, “I get to make out with a hot person today…And they pay me.” »
Seyfried’s comments aren’t the first time an actor has spoken out about on-screen sex scenes. In 2023, Penn Badgley revealed his request to no longer have intimate scenes before You season four.
“It was actually a decision I had made before I took the show,” Badgley said on his podcast. Podécrassé at the time. “I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it publicly, but one of the main things is like, ‘Do I want to get back on a career path where I’m always a romantic lead?'”
He continued, “It’s really important to me… Fidelity in every relationship – and especially in my marriage – is important to me, and I got to a point where I didn’t want to do that. And then, of course, before you pick up the show, is there a question: ‘Do I have a career if I don’t do it?’ I mean, you know, think about all the male leads that you’ve loved. Do they kiss someone? Do they do much more than that? That’s really not what I want.
