Amazon’s ‘Stargate’ series is back in development, this time with the creator of ‘WandaVision’

As expected, Amazon MGM is not giving up its Stargate awakening. In November 2025, the studio gave the green light to a new Stargate series by Martin Gero, a veteran of the previous Stargate watch. But in June, fans learned that Gero’s series had been shelved, apparently because Amazon executives were concerned that it didn’t have the kind of appeal that would attract newcomers beyond the franchise’s well-established fan base.

And today there is fresh Stargate news to reinvigorate this fan base and fans of Marvel TV shows as well. Variety writes that Jac Schaeffer, who created the famous Disney+ series WandaVision and its spin-off Agatha throughoutjoins the science fiction project.

The trade reports that Stargate is tied to Schaeffer’s overall deal with Amazon MGM and that a writers room will soon open. Schaeffer will executive produce with Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures (Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Tory Tunell.

So far, there are no plot details to chew on, but we can assume that, based on Gero’s rejection of the idea of being too “inside baseball,” Schaeffer’s story Stargate will aim to appeal to an audience that could include longtime fans of the franchise (and they go way back: the original Stargate feature film released in 1994; the first series, Stargate SG-1premiered in 1997 and lasted 10 seasons) And people are experiencing the material for the first time.

What do you think of Schaeffer’s involvement in Stargate? Are you excited to see what she comes up with, should this version of the new series move out of development and into actual production?
