AMD brings FSR 4.1 to Xbox consoles and handhelds
AMD just revealed that it is bringing its latest scaling technology, FSR 4.1, to Xbox Series S and X consoles, as well as laptops, 6000 series GPUs, and handhelds like Xbox Ally Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 series.
AMD launched its FSR 4.1 update for Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards in March and has promised to bring the technology to older GPUs and handhelds this year. FSR 4.1 can improve the performance of over 300 supported games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6And Shadows of Assassin’s Creed.
FSR 4.1 arrives just weeks after Sony and AMD teamed up to bring Fast Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) to the base PS5, building on the work of Sony and AMD’s Project Amethyst. “We want to bring this work to more gamers,” says Jack Huynh, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group. “We didn’t just integrate it, we improved it. We went back into the model, tweaked it, and optimized the code path.”
While owners of Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs and Gorgon Halo or Strix Halo powered devices will benefit from FSR 4.1 today with the latest Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 drivers, Xbox console owners will have to wait a little longer.
“We worked closely with AMD to optimize this technology, giving developers another powerful tool that delivers exceptional performance and visual quality to gamers,” said Scott Van Vilet, CTO of Xbox. “Our teams continue to work together on hardware and software, and there is even more to do with Project Helix, leveraging FSR Diamond to power the sequel.”
FSR 4.1 could have a big impact on Xbox console gaming, especially on the less powerful Xbox Series S. Neither Microsoft nor AMD will say when FSR 4.1 will come to Xbox consoles, it’s simply listed as “coming soon.”
