When we have already published an article on the Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta set sale from Secret hideoutIn Chaos Vault, I said we’d come back once we figured out what was wrong. Below we will share what happened during the sale and how we are trying to make up for this bad experience.
This was not the experience you deserve
Here is what the investigation, conducted by Secret hideout‘s transformation partner found: It wasn’t just a product selling faster than expected. Early in the sale, the systems supporting the launch experienced an external downtime. Our partners took immediate action to restore stability, but this obviously had an impact on the overall sale.
Despite the disruptions, Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta set exhausted. I know what it looks like from the outside: sellout usually reads like a victory. This was not the case. A sale is not a success just because inventory reaches zero. Getting a limited product is never guaranteed, however, we try to apply a certain level of fairness to it. We keep the queue in order, process orders as quickly as possible and send you a confirmation message when the process is complete. When a particular product is sold out, we notify the line and you can choose to continue waiting for the others or continue with your day.
Instead, many of you spent your time staring at a queue that didn’t move, encountering an error during checkout, or refreshing your inbox while waiting for a confirmation email that never arrived. Some of you weren’t sure for hours whether you bought something. It’s a terrible experience, whatever the cause. You showed up for something you were passionate about and we gave you a frustrating experience. You deserve better than this from us; not as a courtesy, but as a baseline. Every time.
The Pause in Queue: This One’s on Me
I want to apologize for one thing in particular, because there has to be accountability for decisions, and this was my decision.
When the backend systems were strained, I called to pause the queue. This was the right technical decision, because letting people go to a checkout that couldn’t process their order would have made the situation even worse. Our inventory still showed sufficient stock that once reactivated, we still expected to fulfill a significant number of orders for those of you who were waiting. However, as we completed processing, the delay was much greater than expected and inventory quickly normalized, showing that we were much closer to out of stock than initially anticipated.
The result was that thousands of you sat in a waiting room for about another hour and a half, with no real information, and only a select few were able to get the last remnants of stock as we brought the sale back online.
This is the worst version of this. You gave us your time, you were patient and many of you felt disappointed. I’m sorry. Truly. If you waited and left empty-handed, I understand why you’re angry, and I would be too.
I don’t want the disruption to become a shield, because in a world where this specific disruption doesn’t happen, there are still other issues related to this version that we address in the long term.
What happens next?
Continuing our investigation, here is where things stand regarding order processing.
If you have placed an order for Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta setyou should have already received your confirmation email. I apologize, this took several days as we processed a backlog of orders requiring manual review.
If you still have not received a confirmation email and believe you have completed an order, please contact our customer support team and they will confirm the status of your order.
Orders are expected to begin shipping on November 5th from our North America store and December 8th to Europe and the UK. We will be sure to notify you as soon as possible if any of these changes.
The most important question remains, and the one I spent the most time on: what about everyone who never got out of the queue?
Between the orders we canceled and those that failed outright, we have stock back. Our first instinct was to put it on sale directly and put it in the hands of as many people as possible. But the numbers are not close. You want a lot more Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta set that there are no copies in this pile, and putting them up would just mean another queue, another race, another event where most people leave with nothing.
So we do something else. We are relaunching it.
On December 9, 2026, Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta set will be on sale again for a single limited 24 hour order window. No setting alarm for a specific minute and hoping. If you want Secret hideout x MSCHF: The Zeta setall who order it during this window will see it honored. We estimate that these orders will begin shipping in the second half of 2027. We will provide more details on this estimated timeline as we get closer to sale.
Which brings us to those of you who got a pre-order. Nothing was shipped and most orders were not charged. If this change means Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta set it’s no longer what you signed up for, I completely understand, and you should feel no obligation to keep it. Submit a ticket here before October 9, 2026 and we will cancel it as quickly as possible. No explanation needed. If you prefer to keep your order, you don’t need to do anything at all; it will go exactly as planned and you will be among the first to receive it.
