Anglo-Iranian arrested in RAF Fairford investigation – POLITICO
Vicki Evans, Senior National Policing Coordinator, said: “The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the events in Gloucestershire is extremely complex, and our specialist teams are investigating several lines of inquiry. »
“As we have made clear, we are investigating all possible angles, including possible foreign state involvement. I would like to thank the public for their continued support and patience as we work on this investigation.”
Five British nationals from London were arrested on September 27 after receiving a report of suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford, used by the US Air Force.
They were arrested on suspicion of violations of the explosives law and, later, of preparing a terrorist act. They have since been released on bail but remain under investigation.
On Wednesday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the BBC that Britain believed Iran “played a role” in the incident.
Earlier this year, Britain authorized the US Air Force to use RAF Fairford to carry out “defensive” strikes against Iran. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has already warned the UK that British military bases used by the US to launch strikes would constitute a “legitimate target”.
