Another lot of eye drops recalled
Shoppers who have recently purchased store brand eye drops may want to take a closer look at the label. The United States today reports that nearly 750,000 units of eye lubricants and related products sold under several names, including Walgreens, AvKARE, Reliable-1 and others, are being recalled because their sterility cannot be guaranteed, according to the FDA. Sterling Pharmaceutical Services of Illinois issued the recall Aug. 20, covering nine products ranging from standard lubricant drops to a nighttime ointment.
The FDA has called it a Class II recall, meaning any health problems are expected to be temporary or reversible, and the risk of serious harm is considered low. Still, regulators say consumers should check lot numbers and expiration dates against the FDA’s online enforcement report. Anyone with a recalled product is advised to stop using it and consult a healthcare professional. Sterling did not respond to a request for comment. FOX 32 reports on other recent eye drop recalls.
