Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly provided an update on star Anthony Edwards, but stopped short of setting a possible timetable for his return.

Connelly said Edwards’ knee injury was “not something we’re concerned about long term.”

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards is “in good spirits” but is “obviously disappointed to have to undergo this procedure.”

“It will take him off the NBA MVP list and it will have financial implications as well as competitive implications for the Timberwolves, but I think he’s taking it pretty in stride. The one thing I’ve been told about it and not just trying to play is that he looks at the way this team came together, how quickly they solidified, his chemistry with LaMelo, how Kuminga plays, just everything around him and the good “I really believe that this is a team that can go all the way to the playoffs and that can make it out of the Western Conference.”

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday that Edwards will be out for up to two months after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The Timberwolves hope the four-time All-Star can return “around December” after surgery, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

Edwards initially suffered from patellofemoral pain syndrome, also known as runner’s knee, during his 2025-26 campaign. He was limited to a career-low 61 regular season games due to a right knee problem before a hyperextended left knee caused him to miss two playoff games.

Still, the 25-year-old opened the 2026-27 season on a high note before his knee surgery.

In Edwards’ first four games of the year, he averaged 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 40.0% from three-point territory.

Until he can return, LaMelo Ball and Ayo Dosunmu should continue to play larger roles leading Minnesota’s offense.

The Timberwolves start the season 3-1.
