Of all the risks that Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) lists in some 80 pages of warnings, accounting for nearly a third of its IPO prospectus, there is really only one: not investing.
That’s the resounding message following the leak of Claude creator IPO documents.
The clear implicit message from a cutting-edge AI lab on the verge of becoming a $2 trillion company is that investors should get on board. Of course, Anthropic listed the risks. But have you noticed the expected $2 trillion valuation? Do you want to miss this? If the risks were truly significant, the projected valuation would be much closer to zero.
Potential investors will be confronted with the extraordinary message that advanced AI could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.” These are the company’s own words via the prospectus, which was reviewed by Reuters. Risks associated with its AI models include “self-preserving behaviors,” attempts to “hide or manipulate information,” and “blackmail-like” behaviors.
What’s not to like?
As Reuters notes, Anthropic’s IPO risk factors total about 80 pages out of a 261-page document, twice the number of pages the AI lab uses to describe its actual business. SpaceX, which, let’s not forget, straps people and cargo into a controlled explosion and blasts them through the sky into space, used about 38 pages to describe its risk factors.
Finances are just as strained. Anthropic lost more than $8 billion on an operating basis in 2025, even as its revenue grew twelvefold, the documents show.
But the considerable losses, even coupled with the existential risks, only underscore how valuable Anthropic and its backers believe its technology is. The cutting-edge AI lab sees the coming era of AI, Reuters reports, as more transformative than industrialization, electricity and the Internet.
The public sale could value the company at more than $2 trillion, outpacing almost all major companies except a handful of tech giants, absorbing capital and interest ahead of OpenAI’s commercialization and surpassing public warnings about the threats AI poses to human civilization.
With this in mind, the dozens of pages of risks seem less like formidable responsibilities and more like endearing flaws. The incalculable future benefits outweigh the greatest hypothetical fears.
