Apple alerts stores about iPhone Duo screen cracking issue
In a memo shared this week with Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers, and later obtained by MacRumorsApple has provided technicians with tips on how to diagnose and fix the iPhone Duo internal screen cracking issue.

If a customer reports the problem, Apple advises technicians to inspect the iPhone Duo and repair or replace it according to their standard procedures. While the instructions themselves are simple, the fact that Apple has issued an internal memo suggests that the problem is widespread enough to warrant official guidance.
Apple’s memo says the issue affects a small number of iPhone Duo units, which is consistent with what it said in a public statement Monday.
“We are aware of an issue affecting the internal display of a small number of iPhone Duos,” Apple said in a statement shared with MacRumors. If users experience any issues with their iPhone Duo screen, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement. “You can get help on the Apple website or by calling 1-800-APL-CARE in the United States and Canada.
Apple said that most iPhone Duo units are not susceptible to this issue and that affected units appear to exhibit the defects fairly quickly after use.
Apple said there is no iPhone Duo recall and the company has not yet launched a public repair program on its website for the issue.
Almost immediately after the iPhone Duo began arriving to customers a week ago, a handful of early adopters reported that the device’s internal screen was cracked, causing lines to appear in the middle and towards the right side of the screen.
Electronics repair website iFixit performed a teardown of the iPhone Duo and said the problem was likely related to a faulty hinge on the affected units. However, Apple has yet to comment on the underlying cause of the problem.
