Siri AI is a flagship addition to the HomePod mini 2, but a CNET Today’s report originally claimed that Siri AI would also come to older HomePod mini models. However, the story has since been updated with a correction and 9to5Mac has received a statement confirming that Siri AI will be exclusive to HomePod mini 2.
Apple says Siri AI will be exclusive to HomePod mini 2
Earlier today, CNET released a report stating that Siri AI would be coming to the older HomePod mini. It originally claimed: “The current S5-powered HomePod Mini will also get Siri AI compatibility later this year, as well as updates to iOS 27.2.” »
This news seemed unlikely given that there is no evidence on Apple’s website or in press releases of the HomePod mini 1 supporting Siri AI. Add to that that Apple explicitly stated that Siri AI would be available on some older Apple TV 4K models, and included no such assurance for HomePod mini owners.
CNET finally updated its article with a correction stating that Siri AI will not be available on older HomePods. This matches what Apple said 9to5Mac.
Apple confirmed 9to5Mac than Siri AI will only be available on HomePod mini 2 as well as Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or later).
The first HomePod mini debuted six years ago, so this isn’t surprising news. The S5 chip is very outdated for AI tasks, as evidenced by Apple Watch models requiring much newer chips for Siri AI support.
