Apple, Palantir shares fall in premarket trading after earnings
Apple And Palantir Shares fell in premarket trading Tuesday after both reported results after the bell on Monday.
The iPhone maker reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter revenue, but missed estimates on iPad sales and issued a margin forecast that disappointed investors.
Palantir beat Wall Street estimates for the third quarter, as U.S. business revenue surpassed government revenue for the first time.
Apple was last trading down 4.4% and Palantir was down 6% in premarket trading.
Apple and Palantir stocks year to date.
Apple’s profits
Apple’s statement marks the first earnings report since John Ternus took over from Tim Cook as CEO in September.
The company faces a global memory shortage and a rush for computer components. Memory costs were higher this quarter than in the June period, the company said Monday. Despite the price hike, Ternus said Apple just closed its “best financial year ever.”
He told CNBC’s MacKenzie Sigalos that Apple’s growth has occurred despite supply constraints and foreign exchange headwinds.
“The concern is profitability,” said Violeta Todorova, senior research analyst at Leverage Shares. “Management highlighted memory as the main pressure, as well as the cost of deploying Siri AI. Memory shortages are also expected to limit the supply of Macs and iPads, as demand has exceeded forecasts.”
Apple shares are up 25% in 2026, ahead of other big tech names, but that premium leaves “little room for disappointment,” Todorova added.
