Apple reportedly partners with LG to launch smart lock, thermostat and doorbell
Apple is working on a new ecosystem of smart home devices through a partnership with LG, Bloomberg reported.
The new devices, which include a smart lock, thermostat and doorbell, are designed to integrate with the company’s smart home hub, another upcoming product that would launch on October 13. This hub is expected to include a 6-inch square display that can be placed on a counter or mounted on a wall.
The two companies are also working on a range of security cameras, including indoor and outdoor models, as well as a floodlight. LG devices are also expected to be announced, or even officially released, next week. TechCrunch has contacted Apple for more information.
Interestingly, the devices would be branded as LG, although they were developed by both companies.
The new products could rightly be interpreted as a swipe at Amazon’s smart home offering, which currently includes a variety of similar products, including its Ring home security cameras.
Apple has sought to enter new territories with its recent hardware releases. One of these new territories is the expanded presence of the smart home.
