Apple’s new ‘homeOS’ launches this month, here’s what’s coming

Apple is reportedly planning to launch new home products on October 13, alongside a brand new operating system that will be called “homeOS.” Here are the details.
homeOS will run on the new ‘HomePad’ product, featuring a mix of other Apple operating system designs

Apple’s highly anticipated “HomePad” smart home hub would be unveiled on October 13. And according to Mark Gurman, it will run on a brand new operating system that is rumored to be called “homeOS.”
A recent Bloomberg The report offers plenty of details on what to expect from homeOS. It would feature a mix of other Apple operating system designs, including:
- iPhone-style widgets
- iPad-like app designs
- Apple Watch style icons for its home screen
The default UI, according to Gurman, “is built heavily around photo slideshows and clock displays, similar to the new sleep mode in the upcoming iPhone Duo” and users can “swipe up from the clock screen or photos to open the app launcher.”
We noticed several leaks last week around this Photo Face in homeOS, as shown below.
Siri AI is the central input method, but Apple apps and a home screen will also be available via touch.

Siri AI will be at the heart of homeOS interactions. By Gurman on his new podcast:
The new operating system is essentially this: What would an operating system look like if Siri AI had one? If Siri AI wasn’t just an app on the phone, if it was just an interface on the phone. What if it was an operating system?… It’s about this concept of personal search and personal context, of being able to request songs, podcasts, notes, calendar items, photos that are personalized to you.
Voice will not be the only method of interaction, however. Apple apps and a home screen will also be part of homeOS. Siri AI can be used to control these apps, but touch input will also be supported.
Built-in homeOS apps will include Music, Podcasts, Photos, Weather, FaceTime, Notes, Calendar, Messages, Reminders and more. No App Store should be available, but third-party widgets can be imported from your iPhone.
Like the current HomePod, the idea is that most of the time your interactions with homeOS are through Siri.
