Armed cops storm AMC theater in San Jose

A group of armed police stormed a movie theater in San Jose Saturday night, leaving patrons stunned.

The terrifying moment was captured by a moviegoer on video as San Jose Police Department officials pointed a gun with a tactical light at the audience.

Police were responding to reports of a man carrying a gun at AMC Saratoga 14 in west San Jose around 8 p.m. on October 3. The movie stopped halfway through and the house lights came on as the police entered room 13.

An officer can be heard on the video asking the public to raise their hands. “Sorry to interrupt. Raise your hands real quick, both hands. Stand up,” the officer said.

According to police, the suspect had long red hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and shorts. The officer then said, “Sorry for the inconvenience. Walk towards us this way. Keep your hands up.”

It is likely that the police officer was speaking to the suspect and ordering him to go to the police for questioning.

Audience members were confused and kept saying “What” in response to bewilderment at the officer’s statements.

Lauren, who was inside the theater when the cops burst in, said the theater was full of people when the cops entered. “It was scary to see a gun that big right in front of me,” she told NBC Bay Area.

“There were six police officers. One of them was pointing a huge gun towards the back of the room and they told the guy in the back right to get up and put his hands above his head,” Lauren added.

Aditya Gupta, another moviegoer who watched the entire incident unfold inside the cinema, said he was stunned to see the cops.

“The girl who was sitting to my right ducked and I realized afterwards that I should have done the same thing. I don’t think I understood that there was a real officer with a real assault rifle,” he told the outlet.

Lauren and Gupta left the theater, fearing a shooting might break out.

Officers located an individual matching the subject’s description inside the theater who possessed a firearm. However, they did not find any firearms on or near the suspect, KRON 4 reported.
