Arsenal 2-1 Leeds: A decisive moment of real quality – but Mikel Arteta still has issues to resolve

Arsenal won the championship last season thanks in part to their excellent defense.

The Gunners have conceded the fewest goals in the league but have already conceded five in six games.

The partnership between Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba is one of the best in the world and Arsenal appear to lack the calm of the injured Frenchman.

Ezri Konsa was signed from Aston Villa for £55 million and, despite his quality, is still getting used to his new surroundings.

It is unclear how serious Hincapie’s injury is, although he was seen holding his right ankle as he was carried away by goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

He signed for the club on a permanent deal this summer, after initially being loaned out by Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Hincapie has suffered from muscular problems this season and must now wait anxiously to find out if he needs another stint on the sidelines.

Left-back Calafiori, however, has proven to be an integral part of Arsenal’s attacking threat. His equalizer against Leeds was his first league goal this season, but no defender has been involved in more Premier League goals than the Italian (one goal, two assists).

“The last time we put on our shirts, something was missing.” added Arteta.

“And we have to be very aware of that. Between being exceptional and being champion to being extremely average, like in this match, the line is very thin.

“So if you don’t want it more than the opponent, if you’re not able to emotionally deal with certain situations, you’re going to suffer.

“And we all suffered and we didn’t enjoy that game, but then you have to learn the lesson and we certainly did that.

“We talk about it and we felt that there was something in these bellies.”
