As Jantar Mantar loses protest site tag, CJP plans disrupted
CJP leaders recently approached the Delhi Police to hold a protest over the issues related to the electoral rolls.

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday gave the Delhi Police 24 hours to fix a date for its planned protest at Jantar Mantar against alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls, offering the force a choice to decide when it could take place. However, just as the green light was sought, the police announced the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, throwing the CJP’s plan into uncertainty and prompting it to criticize the move.Hours before party co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka visited the Parliament Street police station to submit a letter regarding its demand, barricades and security personnel had invaded the adjacent roads.Even Firoz Shah Road, about 10 minutes away, had barricades and police stationed along it.Closer to Parliament Street, access was restricted, with loudspeakers repeatedly warning: “Article 163 of the BNSS is in force. Please respect law and order. Stay away from barricades on the road. Just outside the police station, security was even tighter, with announcements also specifying restrictions for media personnel.Ranka said, “We came to the police with a letter giving them an opportunity to suggest a date when we can hold our protest. The DCP entered the room, but left when he saw us sitting there. So we could not meet him. The additional DCP and SHO are not present. It seems that the entire police station has been vacated since the arrival of the CJP members. Anyway, we have submitted the letter.”In its communication, the CJP claimed that more than 55,000 police and paramilitary personnel had been deployed in Delhi in the last three days, disrupting normal life.He denounces arbitrary detentions, physical attacks and prolonged detentions involving citizens and journalists, in addition to reporting the financial losses suffered by businesses forced to close their doors. The party blamed the growing public distress on road closures, barricades and refusal to allocate Jantar Mantar as a protest site. He demanded a reduction in the deployment of security forces, an end to alleged illegal detentions and harassment of independent journalists, and permission to demonstrate at a designated site.
