Ashley Tisdale’s husband breaks silence on ‘toxic mom group’ drama
Ashley Tisdale and her husband aren’t bothered by the fallout from the actress’ viral post about “toxic mom groups.”
Christopher French, who hosts the “Recovering” podcast, told Page Six that he remains firm in the “High School Musical” star’s corner after she publicly blasted her former friends.
“We’re doing well,” French said this week. “She’s a super smart and capable person, and she knows what she’s doing and that’s part of what I love about her.”
Tisdale wrote an article for “The Cut” in January, in which she revealed that she had left the “toxic” mom friends she had been close to since the birth of her eldest daughter in 2021.
In the open letter to the group, Tisdale, 41, said she was done with their “mean girl behavior,” claiming she had been left out of the plans, among other instances of betrayal. She said she broke ties with a group text that read, “This is too high school for me.” »
French, 44, applauded his wife for the way she handled the drama.
“I will say that I have no problem fully supporting my wife in her ability to manage her own interpersonal relationships in the way that works for her, without getting involved or feeling like I have to speak for her,” he said.
“She’s a really smart girl. She’s a very capable person, and that’s really what’s made it so difficult. We’re very private, but we’re talking about something that’s really important to her.”
Although Tisdale never confirmed the identities of her ex-friends, there was widespread speculation that Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor were part of the group. Duff, 38, shared publicly that her former friend wasn’t painting an accurate picture.
“It sucks to read something that’s not true,” Duff said of the essay on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in February. “And that sucks for six women in their entire lives.”
Tisdale kept a low profile following the release of her article “Breaking Up with my Toxic Mom Group” but was recently thrust into the spotlight on the French podcast.
During their conversation, Tisdale spoke candidly about her other struggles with motherhood.
“In the postpartum depression episode that she talks about, there are things that we all go through that don’t make sense,” said French, who has been proudly sober for almost 20 years. “Whether it’s emotional topics or our own experiences in general. It can be very difficult to know how to deal with these kinds of things.”
“In the case of postpartum depression, she’s trying to use these tools that she’s built over time to deal with all these other issues, all the other issues that she has in her life — anxiety, depression, stuff like that. But the tools just don’t work, you know? It’s just not logical, and so it can make things very difficult, but she doesn’t work.”
Tisdale and French married in 2014. They have two children together: Jupiter, 5, and Emerson, 2.
