‘Ball and chain’: Trump’s tariffs continue to hamper global trade cooperation
President Donald Trump wants U.S. allies to unite against China’s trade tactics. This week, he got another reminder of how his tariffs are making that sale harder.
At the annual meeting of G20 trade ministers in Milwaukee, the United States asked other major global economies to help it address four U.S. trade priorities, including tackling the glut of low-cost Chinese manufactured goods and forced labor in supply chains.
He achieved consensus on just one of those priorities, the U.S. Trade Representative said. Jamieson Greer said Thursday – with language condemning the militarization of the food trade.
And even that deal was largely meaningless, according to Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy. Andrzej Domanski.
