Battlefield 6 devs to fix ‘Security’ skin typo, but five-gun outfit was intentional

Comments Off on Battlefield 6 devs to fix ‘Security’ skin typo, but five-gun outfit was intentional

Battlefield Studios has responded after fans accused it of using AI to generate cosmetics after spotting a “Security” typo on a Battlefield 6 Season 5 skin.

The studio acknowledged players’ “frank comments” in a statement on social media, insisting it had “heard your concerns.”

And while the statement doesn’t mention AI – either to admit or deny the use of generative technology – BattlefieldComm said that while the “Security” typo will be corrected by a “fix update”, an outfit with five guns is intentional.

“First, let’s dive into the ‘Security’ typo fixes on McNeil’s character,” the studio wrote. “A fix update has already been planned for the release of Season 5, Phase 2. However, we recognize that allowing a known visual error to appear without prompt acknowledgment creates confusion and erodes trust. We are reviewing how we communicate known visual bugs so that you are not left wondering whether something was intentional or overlooked.”

The Midnight Mirage skin, featuring five guns, is however described as an “intentional creative concept” and “a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an agent inexplicably has another backup weapon attached to every available inch of gear.”

“That said, we understand how this might look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies,” the team added, and, specifically addressing the typo, said: “We pride ourselves on the quality of our world and gear, and seeing visual quirks slip through is frustrating for everyone.”

Cosmetic quality and recent reviews
Over the past week, we’ve seen some candid conversations, memes, and comments surrounding a few of our latest skins and cosmetic items, particularly the standard McNeil skin with the “SECURITY” typo.

You’ve made it clear and we hear your concerns.…

The post does not specify how the typo occurred or address fans’ accusations that generative AI was used.

Season 5 launched in Battlefield 6 this week as planned, and while most of the new additions – new maps, weapons and vehicles, as well as gameplay changes – were well received, the season started on a bad note due to the aforementioned accusations of using generative AI and having a major impact on XP gain.
