‘Baywatch’ Reboot Sets Fox Release Date
“Baywatch” brings some sunshine to winter, as Fox’s reboot of the hit beach series premieres January 6 at 9 p.m.
The sequel to the 1990s sensation stars Stephen Amell as a grown-up version of Hobie Buchannon, the wild child from the original series. The series follows Hobie, now captain of Baywatch, in the footsteps of his father, Mitch, as his world is turned upside down by the surprise arrival of Charlie (Jessica Belkin), the daughter he never knew. Eager to continue the family legacy, Charlie strives to become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her father.
Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone star alongside Amell and Belkin. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen appear in recurring roles, and hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion also makes an appearance.
The “Baywatch” reboot was picked up for the 2026-2027 broadcast season by Fox in September 2025 with a 12-episode order. The series held an open casting call in early 2026 and began production in Los Angeles in the spring.
The original “Baywatch” series debuted in 1989 and was, at its peak, the most-watched show in the world, broadcast in more than 200 countries. The cast included David Hasselhoff as chief lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the acting careers of stars like Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra. The series also spawned the spinoff “Baywatch Nights” and, in 2017, was rebooted as a failed feature film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
The reboot is executive produced by showrunner Matt Nix alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG also directed the first episode. The series is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
