Beatles biopic producer plans to release all four films at once
The release strategy for Sam Mendes’ high-profile, all-star Beatles biopics — all four of which will hit theaters simultaneously in April 2028 with Sony Pictures Entertainment — has several industry players scratching their heads in wonder.
But Pippa Harris, who produces “The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event” for her and Mendes’ Neal Street Productions, tried to explain the philosophy behind it all during an industry conference at the BFI London Film Festival.
“The idea right now is that the films will be released in 2028, and we want people to be able to experience them in theaters at the same time and during the same period of time,” she said, adding that while she didn’t expect audiences to “see all four films on the same day,” the concept was a more dispersed approach to viewing them.
“So in the same month, you might see one a week, or one weekend, then two the next day and one the next. Whichever way you look at it, I think we hope people will see all four films.”
Each film in the series will be presented from the perspective of a different member of the group and is led by Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
Harris, one of Britain’s most highly regarded producers working today with a catalog that includes titles like “Hamnet,” “Revolutionary Road,” “Jarhead” and many others, said the Beatles’ films “stand on their own as individual stories of each of these four men, but they have a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of the parts.”
She added: “The Beatles are quite simply, I think, the greatest band in history and we’re trying to do our best to do them justice, hence the four films. I don’t think there’s another group that you could legitimately say you wanted to see four films about.”
Harris noted that she was speaking on “day 180” of filming. “It’s a great effort!” »
