Ben Affleck used AI for ‘a lot of things’ in Netflix’s ‘Animals’
After launching his AI company on Netflix earlier this year, Ben Affleck is showing the technology in action with his latest project.
The two-time Oscar winner recently revealed that he “used” artificial intelligence “for a lot of things” in making Animalswhich he co-wrote, directed and starred in, premiering October 9 in select theaters and on Netflix.
“I used (AI) for a lot of things in this movie,” he revealed during a Q&A for Bloomberg Screentime. “I’m a little hesitant to point out what it is or even talk about it because in my business we try to foster the illusion of reality, right? It’s a bit like if you went to a magic show and the magician came out and said, ‘Just before we start, I want you to know that there’s another rabbit here. This guy is a plant.’ It kind of spoils it, doesn’t it? »
Affleck continued, “But yeah, we used it. And actually, I thought it was a good example because it’s a very human film. It’s not in space, it doesn’t have visual effects, but it allowed us to move forward in some cases more quickly, especially in post-production, to do things that we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise.”
Co-written by Affleck, Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray, Animals stars Affleck as Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball, whose son is kidnapped, giving him and his wife Abigail (Kerry Washington) a few hours to get their hands dirty and find the ransom money.
Affleck’s latest Netflix film comes after the streamer purchased his AI company InterPositive in March for $587 million. He quietly founded the company in 2022 and served as its CEO, taking on the role of senior advisor after the Netflix acquisition.
