Berkshire Hathaway just bet another $330 million on a stock. It climbed 41%
Berkshire Hathaway has quietly agreed to invest hundreds of millions in a little-known Milanese software company, and the market reaction raises a sharp question about who will really win when a giant endorses a stock it bought at a deep discount.
On Wednesday October 14, 2026, Bending spoons (NASDAQ:BSP) said Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A | BRK-A Price Prediction, NYSE: BRK-B) has agreed to purchase 10 million newly issued shares of common stock at a price of $33.00 each in a $330 million private placement. The stock rose 41.20% to close at $53.46, up from $37.86 the previous session.
The price of the investment was set before the market reacted. Anyone who buys at the close pays a significant premium over what Berkshire agreed to pay.
These new funds are in addition to the $600 million Berkshire invested in the July 2026 IPO, for a combined commitment of approximately $930 million at the purchase price. This figure reflects what Berkshire paid and says nothing about current value.
Berkshire’s decision itself has been quiet. Its Class B shares rose 1.11% to $526.35, a 10th consecutive daily gain.
Terms signed and details pending
A private placement means the company sells new shares directly to a buyer. Bending Spoons receives new capital and existing holders are diluted, unlike an open market purchase where money simply circulates among investors.
The number of shares, price and dollar size are disclosed. Closing remains subject to standard conditions, with details to come in a regulatory filing, so the transaction should be treated as pending.
The announcement only names Berkshire Hathaway. He does not attribute any decision to Warren Buffett and Berkshire has not published any press release from him.
What Bending Spoons has and how he wins
The Milan-based company acquires and manages mature consumer Internet software and properties, including Airtable, AOL, Brightcove, Eventbrite, Evernote, Tractive, Vimeo and WeTransfer. The strategy is to buy, cut costs, raise prices and raise cash.
Its IPO prospectus sets an internal rate of return of 65% on a leveraged basis for recent deals and says it plans to commit substantially all available capital to acquisitions for many years.
Co-founder and CEO Luca Ferrari said: “We are delighted to welcome Berkshire Hathaway as a shareholder in our public listing. » The acquisition pattern gets worse as long as attractive targets exist, but it stops when only larger, more expensive deals remain.
A liquidity collection operator studying Teledyne (NYSE: TDY) and Capital Cities fit the Berkshire model, as does providing committed capital to a company that wants it. But the stock has only been trading since July and has fluctuated between $30.11 and $58.94. Four founders own Class A shares representing 82.71% of the total voting rights, so outside shareholders, including Berkshire, have little say. Serial acquisitions need financing, and this investment helps provide it.
Why one stock sent BSP up 41% and Berkshire up 1%
Bending Spoons now has a market value of $32.12 billion. Berkshire is worth about $741.92 billion and held a record $380 billion in cash in the first quarter, so stakes are barely registering for Berkshire (for readers who like to shop Buffett’s basket, we’ve ranked Berkshire’s seven cheapest dividend payers in a free report).
Due to this asymmetry, the approval revalues the small business, while the buyer’s own value barely changes.
At the close, the stock traded at nearly 86 times current earnings, above analysts’ average target of $47.67.
What BSP’s premium over Berkshire’s price means for investors
At $53.46, BSP is trading well above the price Berkshire agreed to pay. Berkshire’s paper gain is real but unrealized, and it priced it well below the stock’s closing level.
Berkshire is in the same position as a fragment of a diversified company with revenues close to 11 times earnings.
Berkshire shareholders also own insurance fleets, railroads and utilities rather than a single acquisition machine, proving it can integrate deals like Airtable.
If the placement closes as described and BSP holds more than $47.67 at its next earnings report, this call is incorrect.
