Devens’ Head of Household victory might initially seem like great news to Drew, who played side-by-side with his “dad” in the game all summer and had long established that he would take Devens all the way if the roles were reversed. But, oof, Taylor bent Devens’ ear the day before the finale and told him that if he took Drew to Final Two, Devens would not only lose Taylor’s jury vote, but Lala’s as well; combine that with the jury votes Drew would almost certainly get from his longtime friends Melody and Barrett, and those are the four keys Drew would need to land the win. This conversation seemed to linger with Devens overnight, and when it came time to cast his final eviction vote of the season, an emotional Devens launched into the eviction. Drawn. (“It’s a total betrayal, and I know it,” Devens tells Drew, and Drew fights back tears throughout his post-match Q&A with Julie Chen Moonves. Poor kid!)
The rest happens quickly: Drew joins the jury, and the jurors question Taylor and Devens about how they played the game. Taylor’s answers are admirable, but even if we only use the jurors’ vigorous nods during questioning as a measure, it seems pretty clear that Devens blocked all of those votes. This is even more evident when each juror approaches to vote, all referring to “the person who deserves it the most” or “the player who was an absolute shark” as they put their key in the box. This match has long been Devens’s to lose, and it certainly doesn’t look like he’s about to lose.
But let’s make it official: when Julie removes the keys from the urn, the winner of “Big Brother 28” becomes… Become! He ultimately wins by a vote of six to one, with Taylor winning Lala’s vote. And it’s actually a pretty lucrative night for Devens: he’s also crowned America’s Favorite Playerwhich earns him an additional $50,000. Between this victory, the big wins, and the $10,000 he got from the Pharaoh’s Curse, he leaves with $810,000. It’s not a bad summer job.
And while it’s always difficult to say goodbye to another season of “Big Brother” — well, except for Season 15 — viewers aren’t saying goodbye to the show forever. As Julie confirmed at the end of the finale, “Big Brother” has been renewed for two more seasons, guaranteeing that it will air at least through season 30.
