SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) — Evacuation orders and warnings were issued Sunday in Santa Clarita as a fast-moving brush fire broke out in the area and burned at least 172 acres.
The bike fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road, near Sand Canyon and Placerita Canyon roads, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was initially estimated to be around 5 acres, but that number grew quickly.
Around 2:40 p.m., authorities said at least 230 acres had burned “with erratic fire behavior.” As of 4:06 p.m., the fire grew to 275 acres.
Evacuation orders were in effect for parts of the Sandsouth, Sultus and Nadeu areas. Residents of Woodland, MacMillan and Crystal Springs were warned to be prepared to leave their homes as structures were threatened.
Two air tankers and two Type 1 helicopters were mobilized to contribute to firefighting efforts.
The region saw two more wildfires last week. The Bouquet Fire was reported Oct. 3 near Bouquet Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest, northeast of Santa Clarita. It was 83% contained Sunday after burning 1,048 acres.
The Danny Fire was reported on October 8 about 2 miles south of Gorman, although forward progression was quickly stopped and the fire was 96% contained to 150 acres.
