Bloomington shooting today: 1 killed, 7 injured in 100 block of East Division Street, near Illinois Wesleyan University, officials say

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WLS) — A 19-year-old woman was killed and seven other people were injured in a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University early Sunday morning, officials said.

Bloomington, Ill., police officers responded to the 100 block of East Division Street just after 1:20 a.m., according to city officials. Bloomington is approximately 135 miles (217 kilometers) southwest of Chicago.

There, officers found several people who had been shot.

A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

Another woman, whose age was not immediately available, was hospitalized in critical condition.

Six other people were injured, but their lives are not in danger.

It’s not immediately clear what led to the shooting, but city officials believe it was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
