Bo Nix: I don’t know where the disconnect is offensively
The point of playing football games is to win football games and the Broncos managed to do that against the Seahawks on Thursday night, but the result didn’t protect their quarterback Bo Nix from harsh criticism after the game.
On Prime Video’s postgame show, former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick called Nix’s performance in the 17-14 overtime victory “garbage.” The Broncos passed for 153 yards on two first-down touchdowns that gave them a 14-0 lead, but they only picked up two first downs the rest of the night while throwing seven times and the futility allowed the Seahawks to send the game into overtime.
Nix finished 17 of 27 for 107 yards and the team’s longest pass went for 16 yards, which he said after the game was not part of an overly conservative design and that he didn’t “understand why we can’t really push the ball vertically right now.” Nix said he recognized the need to do so so that the offense has equal weight on Denver’s defense.
“Were definitely capable“Nix said. “We showed it and I don’t know where the disconnect is right now to be honest with you. . . . I just think we’re really, for whatever reason, struggling to find those explosive plays and that’s what makes an offense really spectacular: finding explosive plays. And at the moment, we don’t have them.
The only positive Nix could point out is that the Broncos didn’t turn the ball over while the Seahawks gave it away three times, including an interception in overtime that allowed Denver to score game-winning points. Head coach Sean Payton didn’t address the offense’s struggles, only saying, “We’re going to see a lot of things we want to clean”, but it’s clear that his decision to take over playcalling didn’t solve all of Nix’s or the rest of the unit’s problems.
