Bob Odenkirk Mourns ‘Breaking Bad’ Co-Star RJ Mitte After His Passing: ‘It’s Just Deeply Sad’
Bob Odenkirk pays tribute to his deceased Break the bad co-star, RJ Mitte, died at 34.
Odenkirk, who played Saul Goodman on the AMC series, said Mitte was a “good person who shared his personal story and his time to help others.”
“Every time I saw him, he met the world with positivity and a strong desire to connect,” Odenkirk said in a statement to People. “It’s just deeply sad.”
Odenkirk is the last Break the bad actor to commemorate Mitte, who played Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on the series.
Bryan Cranston took to Instagram to remember his TV son, saying he was in “deep despair” over Mitte’s death.
“Born with cerebral palsy, he never allowed this challenge to be an excuse for anything. He faced the demanding filming schedule with great determination,” Cranstron wrote. “He always listened to the advice his TV parents (Anna Gunn and myself) gave him – but being a teenager, sometimes mischievously ignoring the advice in order to learn the hard way… He was one of the stars of a hit TV show – but still a kid.”
He continued, “All that promise and potential is now such a loss. It’s especially devastating to learn that he took his own life. Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago to see when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I know that I loved him and really enjoyed being with him throughout the years of the show, and after the spotlight on Break the bad attenuated… I will miss you, my son.
Mitte’s representatives confirmed the news, saying he committed suicide in Brownsville, Texas.
