
Box office: Thursday previews of “Autre Maman”, “The Social Report”
Universal Pictures release Other mom recorded a strong $3.6 million from previews beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday in 2,850 theaters and opens today on 3,365 screens. The social report account with $650,000.
Other momRob Savage’s Jessica Chastain-headlined horror from producer James Wan and Blumhouse Atomic Monster sees a young girl (Arabella Olivia Clark) form a relationship with a sinister entity in her house that bears an uncanny resemblance to her own mother. Previews were good for a Blumhouse film of this size, although early reviews were far from positive. Horror is a hot bet as Halloween approaches, and while the market is crowded, there are no new tentpoles. The R rating Other mom was considering an opening of around $20 million. We’ll see how the reviews and audience reaction impact the weekend.
