Bradley Cooper to star as Duke in Danny McBride’s ‘GI Joe’ reboot
Bradley Cooper will star as Field Commander Duke in Danny McBride’s Paramount film “GI Joe.”
Plot details and further casting remain under wraps, but Paramount promises the film will bring a new take on the iconic Hasbro toy line. McBride also wrote the screenplay with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri.
Paramount also confirmed that “GI Joe” had been “disassociated” from the “Transformers” franchise. This crossover was teased at the end of 2023’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
12-time Academy Award nominee “Bradley Cooper” is best known for his roles in films like “A Star Is Born,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Sniper.” He is currently in production on a prequel to “Ocean’s 11.” Cooper directs the project and stars alongside Margot Robbie and Monica Barbaro.
“GI Joe” marks McBride’s first major directorial effort. He’s already helmed the pilot for the HBO comedy series “The Righteous Gemstone” and a few episodes of “Vice Principals,” but never has a major action mainstay like “GI Joe” loomed.
“GI Joe” is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Zev Foreman for Hasbro Entertainment.
Paramount Pictures co-chairmen Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg have some major IP games in the works outside of “GI Joe.” Variety has exclusively revealed that a ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel is in the works starring Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway. The studio also has a “World War Z” sequel, a new “Paranormal Activity” movie starring James Wan, a new “Star Trek” project, “Sonic the Hedgehog 4” and a “Call of Duty” movie in the hopper.
