Brent Taylor accuses sending nudes of ‘juvenile indiscretion’
Brent Taylor, a Tennessee state senator running to represent the state’s 9th District in the House of Representatives, is currently facing one of the silliest sex scandals in recent years, crafting a new defense against allegations that he sent unsolicited nudes to women as recently as 2021.
Defense? Well, dammit, he was just a kid!
“As I approach age 60, the expiration date on each of my youthful indiscretions has passed,” Taylor told the Nashville Scenewhich broke history. “Whatever story you think you have, my wife is well aware of it and we worked through it a long time ago. My God and my wife have forgiven me, and I would consider everyone doing the same.”
However, this excuse is slightly undermined by the fact that Taylor was in his 50s when he allegedly sent the nudes. Modern medicine has helped many people preserve their youthful vigor into middle age, but that doesn’t seem like the best excuse to send dick pics.
“I know people will be disappointed in what I did, but I think the important thing is knowing that I’m willing to be held accountable,” Taylor told local Tennessee radio host Matt Murphy on Tuesday. “If I didn’t want to talk about it seven days before the election, I shouldn’t have done it.”
Taylor told Murphy the contact was “text communication with someone I shouldn’t have communicated with.”
Still, Taylor seems to roll with the punches. “All I can tell you is that, in the past, I have been guilty of being rounder, back in the day,” he told the Nashville scene, using a term often used in bluegrass songs to describe a wastrel or a ne-re-do-well.
The question, of course, is whether 2021 can be considered “a return to the old days.” And Taylor doesn’t have much electoral room to maneuver. His opponent, Democratic state Rep. Justin Pearson, is relatively close in the few polls available, although Taylor is still favored to win in the district, which was recently redrawn to include more white and rural voters, tipping the district’s potential balance enough for its Democratic incumbent, Steven Cohen, to retire rather than run again.
Pearson responded on X to Taylor’s reported sexting and her explanation. I am troubled to learn of Brent Taylor’s pattern of sending unsolicited nude photos to multiple women,” he wrote. “The fact that he called his behavior ‘youthful indiscretions’ when it happened recently, when he was in his 50s and while he held a government position, is ridiculous.”
“Career politicians like Brent Taylor and billionaires like Donald Trump have been abusing their power and getting away with it for far too long,” Pearson continued. “This is the type of predatory behavior that must be eradicated from our society and our politics. »
Pearson, who is legitimately younger at 31, has some notoriety on his side. In 2023, he was briefly expelled from the Tennessee State House for protesting gun violence, earning him both fame and notoriety in the state. He announced a year ago that he would run for Cohen’s seat, before Cohen chose to resign.
“This is my home and I’ve always wanted to serve this community,” Pearson said. rolling stone last year. “Now is the time to fight for the change we want to see and fight for the future we know we deserve.”
