BRENTWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A brush fire broke out in Brentwood overnight as the area braces for a Santa Ana wind that triggers a red flag warning and critical fire danger.
The fire was reported around 2:50 a.m. in the area of Vandergrift Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Crews on the ground and in the air battled the flames, which burned approximately 1.5 acres before stopping the fire’s progress. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Although firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in just an hour, the blaze broke out as many parts of the region are bracing for the return of warm temperatures and Santa Ana winds. This combination triggers a red flag warning due to the high risk of fires.
Wind gusts could reach 40 to 70 mph in wind-prone areas of the region. Windy conditions will begin to strengthen on Thursday, but the strongest winds are expected on Friday.
