Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered dislocated right thumb in loss to Vikings | Latest NFL News, Analysis and Updates
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Vikings, head coach Todd Bowles said.
Bowles told reporters that Mayfield would undergo an MRI on Monday and added that the X-rays showed no fractures.
Mayfield was injured when he was hit by Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman on a fourth down play with the Bucs trailing 20-16.
Mayfield’s right hand appeared to hit Cashman as he attempted a pass, which was intercepted by Andrew Van Ginkel. The veteran quarterback immediately fell to the Raymond James Stadium turf, holding his hand in obvious discomfort.
He eventually made his way to the sidelines and into the locker room with the Tampa Bay training staff.
Mayfield agreed to a three-year, $165 million extension on the eve of the regular season, but struggled in the first two games of the campaign and sat out again Sunday before leaving due to injury.
Mayfield was 17 of 34 for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception when he left the game.
Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels replaced Mayfield for the Bucs’ final possession.
