Bungie plans to share first details about Destiny 2’s surprise content “unlock” soon
Bungie surprised players last month by announcing plans to bring back Destiny 2 campaigns and other additions removed from the game over the years. When this “no-vault” plan was initially announced, Bungie didn’t share any details, or a timeline for when we can expect things to return.
Now the developer is finally offering some clues. Bungie Product Manager Josh Deane revealed that Bungie is set to share a progress update. “I know there are a lot of questions about how, what, and when to undo the jump. Including potential future D2 updates and what’s beyond for Destiny,” Deane wrote on X in an article recently spotted by The Game Post. “This is all going to be a very intentional process that will take time.”
Deane said that Bungie would begin “talking about what our first step will look like with more clarity” in late October, which is when we’re now getting closer. The Bungie boss also said that the development update would not come in the form of a traditional roadmap. Instead, Bungie views it as “a progress bar” and the studio hopes it will “bring you all closer, in a more cohesive way, to our development milestones.”
“Just be transparent about any challenges we face and show you evidence of the work along the way that builds understanding,” Deane explained. “This way, when we share a release date, we are all on the same page and have the right expectations that lead directly into how we will further celebrate Destiny’s legacy and vision for the future.”
Following Destiny 2’s “flawless” announcement, a Forbes report has shed light on what players can reasonably expect from Bungie. The report states that deleted campaigns, raids, and destinations are returning, but live seasons have not expired. He also suggested that the work should not be interpreted to mean that Destiny 2 is back in active development.
In June, Bungie released one final major update to Destiny 2, announcing the end of active development on the shooter-MMO. The update added some highly requested features, fixed some long-standing issues, and even introduced some new things to play. This reignited interest in the game, apparently enough to convince Bungie to restart efforts to bring back the removed content.
